We're going to be traveling city to city through Costa Rica, Panama and Nicaragua. Every town we pass through we are going to be getting people together to talk about health and spontaneously participate in standing and chair yoga classes (read more about yoga below). We will be discussing an approach to health that looks at it holistically, and that means the mental/physical/emotional/spiritual things we can do in our daily lives to take care of our collective health. We will also be discussing and experiencing the difference that being part of a community can have when we explore health and growth. While teaching these classes, we're using an experience based model of education based out of the Life Skills Model, founded in 1960's Alberta. The Life Skills approach of teaching brings people together in a circle, creating a container that makes growth possible through experience based learning. It involves experiencing education first-hand through activities, discussions, skill learning and practice, all while being part of a group of people who will continue to educate and pass the knowledge on through their everyday contact with others (to know more, read the Life Skills section below).

Our yoga classes start in a circle with a round of introductions, what it is we’re trying to accomplish through yoga and further resources to bring back to their own communities. The class opens with a beginning relaxation called Savasana; this process helps to soothe and prime people. It also helps to create a separate space from the noises, chaos and distractions in order to form a container for growth and connection. Circles have a defined inside and outside, and no beginning or end. Then we will do a round-robin check-in; see what their experience is with maintaining health holistically, and what they’re looking to take away from this experience. We will also touch on what they would like for strectches/asanas/breathing depending on what they’re interested in.  Closing relaxation, check-in, ask how it was/what they’ve learned and how they will apply it. More resources.

Besides exploring health through physically being part of one of these spontaneous circles, we're bringing the experience to even more people by sharing it through photography and writing. Not only does looking through photos and reading about the classes give people who are not present access to the content experience, it's sharing and teaching visually. Up until this point learning is taking place kinaesthetically and orally with Spiritfeet, and we wanted to take the opportunity to share visually as well so we can reach as many people as possible.

Photographs will provide a form of expression that words can not, and writing about the experiences will help you follow along and be part of an online community. Social media is going to be another outlet we use to update about the travel, as well as share our thoughts on health and promote the awesome people and companies contributing to Spiritfeet. We are going to be able to share the ups and downs, the excitement and adventure, and challenges that will hopefully inspire others to try something similar of their own!

Our ultimate goal is to get people talking about how to maintain all aspects of their health, and to pass on what they're learning to others. We're really hoping that the pay-it-forward aspect brings a level of sustainability that changes the way people look at their health. That community becomes something real, raw and supportive again. We've chosen to start in Costa Rica because they are known for being a forward thinking, eco-green country and we believe that our philosophy will be a successful fit for them. We also believe it will be a beautiful, exotic place to start our adventure and share in the experience with others.
